HWIS Assistant Director Job Position

Independent Mandarin and Spanish immersion day school for students ages 2 through Grade 5  based in NY and NJ is seeking an administrator for a Mandarin immersion assistant director position.  This individual is a key member of the administration reporting to the director,  supporting the planning and operations of the school on two campuses - one in Manhattan, NY and the other in North Central NJ.  This position is available immediately for the upcoming school year 2018-2019.  If interested, please send resume and cover letter to hr@hwis.org by July 8, 2018.

Job Description

Job title: Mandarin Immersion –Assistant Director
Location: Based in Manhattan, New York but requires travel to Stirling, NJ for oversight of

Mandarin program and participation in events, meetings)

Reports to: School Director
Classification: Salary, exempt
Work schedule: 11 months (August-June)
Position summary:
Oversee and manage all aspects of immersion program related to program development and
implementation on a day to day basis.
Major responsibilities:
• Oversees the implementation of the Mandarin language immersion model through planning and
supervision of daily school operation.
• Takes the role of Assistant Director to attract, develop and instructional staff including development of professional training, modeling, mentoring, coaching and evaluation.
• Key member of administration team supporting school events, meetings in both NY and NJ.
• Oversees the continuous development of curriculum and program for academic content alignment, materials review and alignment and assessment of student performance.
• Initiates and oversees parent and school academic communications, conferences, meetings, progress reports and newsletters.
• Participates in open houses, forums and outreach to prospective and current families.
• Oversees compliance with licensing regulations for early childhood and elementary programs.
• Instrumental in developing positive school culture and values.
• Ensure proper coverage during school operating hours. Support other auxiliary programs - after
school, enrichment, summer and vacation camps.
• Coordinates activities with the parent association.
Qualifications:
• 6+ years’ experience as an immersion teacher required; school administrative experience
strongly preferred.
• Fluency in Mandarin required and strong command of English
• Master’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, TESOL or other educational
preferred.
• Strong supervisory skills
• Strong communicator and team player
• Very well-organized and detail-oriented.
