Yuan Gao

Yuan Gao is currently a first-year M.S Urban Planning student at GSAPP(Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation) Columbia. Prior to this, she studied in architecture in Los Angeles. She is pursuing two concentrations within her program: urban analytics and built environment.

Xinyu Liu (Rainy)

Xinyu Liu is currently a M.S. Urban Planning first-year student in Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation and was before trained as a human geographer during her undergraduate in the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Rainy has broad interest in urban planning: being especially interested in the political and social issues in urban planning, she is also enthusiastic about urban data and analytics, though being very prudent and critical in using them.

  • I am currently a second-year graduate student at Columbia University GSAPP, studying urban planning while taking classes from Real Estate program. I am holding two concentrations at GSAPP, one is the built environment while the other is urban analytics. I have been academically trained as an urban planner and urban analyst for more than 5 years. My experiences include multiple studying abroad opportunities in both China and the United Kingdom and learning advance knowledge of the environment planning, urbanism, economic development, comprehensive planning, and geospatial analysis.

 

Anthony Vanky

Anthony Vanky, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in Urban Planning at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), focusing on the use of data-centric practices in city-making. Previously, he was a lecturer in Urban Design and Planning at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also currently serves as the New York City affiliate for MIT designX, the academic platform dedicated to advancing innovation and entrepreneurship in design, cities and the built environment for which he was on the founding team and its first educational program manager.

Anthony’s own research considers the use of digital data and pervasive sensing technologies in designing, planning and evaluating urban environments, and spans the disciplines of urban design, urban technologies, innovation studies, and public health.
