The America Sevashram Sangha
Jamaica, Queens
The America Sevashram Sangha is an ashram located in Jamaica, Queens. As one of forty-five international centers under the guidance of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Calcutta, it follows a tradition of providing selfless service to humanity and the propagation of Hinduism in the community in which it resides. Its congregation mostly consists of Guyanese Hindus coming from the Richmond Hill, Flushing, and Jamaica neighborhoods nearby, although some devotees do come from as far as New Jersey. It is currently headed by Swami Vidyananda, a well known figure who also heads Divya Dham and the Guyana Sevashram Sangha. Through essay competitions, a yearly summer camp, Hindi language classes, and an emphasis on regular visits to the ashram, the America Sevashram Sangha promotes spiritual awareness with an emphasis on youth.
