Our Approach

As a seminar on instructional practices rather than on digital skills, our focus will be on helping participants to integrate digital tools and practices in general into the intellectual work of their teaching.

The workshop sessions will focus on effective teaching practices for digital skills, a survey of digital literacy standards, data literacies, and open practices.

In the lab sessions, participants will employ backward design methodology to establish connections from competencies to learning outcomes to activities. Using a modified version of Bloom’s taxonomy to represent the levels of skills to be developed in their courses, they will come up with a simplified syllabus format that shows students what skills they will master and at what level.

Establishing a community of practice that participants can return to for advice and support during and after the seminar is a key goal. Participants will work in collaborative groups and are encouraged to share their homework reflections with one another.
