Category: Academic Language

Academic language is typically used at school and in formal settings between non-intimates. Examples of academic language can be found in essays and textbooks. When speaking about certain topics, academic language is more abstract, complex, and lacks extra linguistic support (i.e. decontextualized). It can be used to gain, apply, or display knowledge.
