Validity Part 3- ELLs, IQs, and Cognitive Tests (Preschool Disability Evaluations: Module 08)

Download Video

This module examines validity issues for psychological tests such as the lack of validity of standardized IQ tests when used with bilingual individuals and English language learners (ELL). Despite fluency in English, Latino children consistently score lower than non-Latino peers resulting in mislabeling of bilingual children as learning or cognitively impaired. Specific examples are discussed from common standardized psychoeducational tests.
