Once a child has learned to decode accurately and quickly, the last step is to understand the text: reading comprehension. However, reading comprehension goes beyond this to the ability to analyze and relate text to oneself, class material and the world. A variety of strategies for supporting reading comprehension are presented, including how to support English language learners (ELL).
