Although nonspeech oral motor exercises (NSOME) have been commonly used by speech language pathologists for decades, the research simply does not support its use in therapy that is intended to change speech sound production. Doctors Watson and Lof provide explanations SLPs can give in response to a wide variety of parent comments and questions with respect to NSOME.
