Dynamic Assessment: Cognitive Assessment (Preschool Disability Evaluations: Module 28)

Download Video

This module explains what dynamic assessment is through an example for viewers.Cate demonstrates how static assessment is based on the examiner’s bias and their personal expectations for the individual being evaluated. It does not consider the individual’s prior knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge. New York State requires examiners to consider the individual’s ability to acquire new knowledge during evaluation. Examples of dynamic assessment, including one for assessing cognition, are provided and a demonstration about how to incorporate the information gained from this type of assessment into an evaluation is given.
