This module explains the need to shift the clinical practice from the traditional score driven method of evaluating children for disabilities to one supported by holograms and appropriate assessment. This will align the clinical practice with what federal and state laws require regarding how to assess children for disabilities. This shift in clinical practice is occurring now because of the documented over referral of minority and diverse students for special education, as a direct result of a reliance on biased and invalid standardized tests. In addition, due to the lack of accurate and representative data provided by standardized testing methods, administrators making a determination of the presence of a disability often do not feel confident in their decisions. Holograms and dynamic assessment, in conjunction with good clinical judgment, provide a much more accurate and complete picture of the child for those reading the evaluation.
