Critical Questions 1-4 (Preschool Disability Evaluations: Module 19)

Download Video

This module is the first of three presenting the critical questions: nine essential questions that must be asked in every caregiver interview during an evaluation. The first question is used to determine the language acquisitional history of the child. This information should include what languages the child has exposure to, with whom and when. The second question is regarding the socioeconomic status of the caregiver. The socioeconomic status of the family helps the evaluator to understand the child’s prior knowledge. The third question asks if there have been any recent changes in family structure, which could help explain unexpected behavior during the evaluation. The fourth question inquires about any family history of speech, language or learning disability due to the genetic basis that exists for many disabilities.
