Download Video

In this module, Cate discusses the two types of bilinguals: simultaneous and sequential. Simultaneous bilinguals develop two lexical systems and demonstrate mixed utterances from both languages. Balance of input, language loss, and mixed language input are all factors that affect simultaneous bilinguals’ language development. Sequential bilinguals rely on the native language and may go through a silent period or demonstrate interlanguage.
